From water-loss gimmicks to suped-up Formostar tanning sessions — we need to understand why this stuff isn't working for us!
FORMOSTAR BOTTOM LINE: Just don't pay anymore than the $3-5 dollars you'd pay for a normal good tanning bed session!
Its always fascinating when "alleged" modern science says that you can now strap yourself to a machine for 30-60 minutes and not only will you lose inches and toxins, but EVEN MORE YOU'LL simulate a workout burning up to 900 to 1400 calories in only one 50 minute session without having to move an INCH!
Where do I sign up....RIGHT??? :-) LOL
Oh, AND its going to help clear up your pimples too... I can't forget that one! :-) (actually - for the record, that one is true, just like a $3-5 dollar tanning bed session helps with dehydrating your skin.)
OK, let me explain by giving you some of my own research and then we'll consider some of the companies (Formostar) own Q & A's below on their wrap...

1. I began my research by phoning a known Day Spa (no names) for women, here in our local area, and the owner of the establishment made the following exact quotes on 12/06:
"It's called a Infrared Energy Body Wrap by a company called Formostar. We used to give Herbal Body Wraps, but we've just found that its just too tedious and labor intensive for us and now this is just easy for us. We just take a client in a room, wrap a big bandage around them, (which is wired to the Formostar machine) and the inches just melt off. ...We don't have to do all the work anymore to give a Body Wrap!" -Day Spa Owner In Local Gainesville, Ocala Fl Area Here
AND... guess what? .....she's right! :-)
She's absolutely right! It is VERY involved and intensive giving a REAL Herbal Body Wrap! She's right! Working with the herbs, minerals and vitamins with 20-30 different wraps to really penetrate your fat cells and shrink them (versus a water dehydration scam).... that really is a lot of work!

2. Next, I went directly to the FormoStar company website and reviewed their questions and answers to look for some "real" information, and not the sales hype... AND here's what I found with their actual questions and answers and you'll see my comments below:
A: Far infrared energy (FIR) is a part of the natural light spectrum minus the UV element. The Formostar Far Infrared Body Wrap has been designed to output energy in the 5.6 to 25 micron FIR band also peaking around the 9.4 micron level to achieve maximum effectiveness. When FIR energy penetrates through the skin it transforms from light energy to heat energy and elevates the temperature of the subcutaneous layers.
(Are you impressed yet? :-) Basically its telling you in glamorous terms that this energy/light is equivalent to a $3-5 dollar tanning light session. But it continues, so lets go on shall we?)
The body's absorption of this energy simulates a workout, burning up to 900 to 1400 calories in a 50 minute session providing body shaping and detoxification.
(All that from a powerful heat energy, huh? :-)
Moving on - it appears a spa owner asked a real intelligent question below and it granted this truth by the company...)
Q: Can clients use multiple infrared treatments, such as Formostar and a tanning session, on the same day?
A: Both the Formostar and a TANNING BED give off infrared heat, therefore IT IS POSSIBLE to receive a burn or heat rash if both sessions are undertaken on the same day. It is not recommended, especially if the client is fair skinned and prone to burning. Tanning the previous or the next day should be perfectly fine.

Q: Should I drink water before or after a session?
A: It is recommended that drinking water before, during and after a session allows the body to stay hydrated and replaces body fluids that have been sweated out during the session.
Now.. on to the rest of the water-loss gimmicks.
With the recent advent of day spas and such things as mineral beauty salons, there are as many different kinds of body wraps available today as there are stars in the sky.
